Understanding Occupational Therapy

What Is Occupational Therapy & Who Can Benefit?

Occupational therapy (OT) is a client-centred health profession that focuses on enabling people to participate in everyday activities — or occupations — that give their lives meaning and purpose. These include personal care, work, education, leisure, and community participation.

For NDIS participants, occupational therapists play a critical role in assessing functional capacity, prescribing assistive technology, recommending home modifications, and supporting independence across all areas of daily life.

Whether your participant has a physical disability, cognitive impairment, mental health condition, or acquired brain injury — an OT assessment with TEAH provides the clinical evidence your NDIS plan needs to unlock the right supports.

Who Can Benefit from OT?

  • ✅  Physical Disabilities — mobility, fine motor, upper limb
  • ✅  Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) — sensory, daily living
  • ✅  Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) — cognitive, functional recovery
  • ✅  Mental Health & Psychosocial — routine, coping, independence
  • ✅  Neurological Conditions — MS, Parkinson’s, stroke
  • ✅  Intellectual Disability — skill building, daily tasks
  • ✅  Developmental Delays — children & young adults
  • ✅  Spinal Cord Injury — home access, AT, seating

Clear, evidence-based NDIS reports that support plan reviews, AT applications, home modification funding, and SIL applications.

NDIS Funding

How Does the NDIS Fund Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy is funded under the Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living budget in your NDIS plan. This means your OT assessments, reports, and therapeutic support sessions are covered — at no out-of-pocket cost to you or your participant.

AT prescriptions, home modification reports, and complex needs assessments may also be funded through your Capital Supports budget.

Not sure what your plan covers? Our team can help you identify the right funding lines and make a referral on your behalf.

3

Assessment & Report Delivered

Your OT conducts the assessment (at home, school, or community), then delivers a detailed clinical report ready for your NDIS plan review.

Local Therapists, Local Knowledge

Our OTs live and work in the communities they serve. They know Darwin, Perth, Brisbane and regional areas — and they come to you.

Low Wait Times

We move fast. Our wait times are consistently below the industry average — because your participant's needs can't wait.

Multidisciplinary Team

Work alongside speech pathologists, physiotherapists, and support coordinators all under one roof — integrated care that gets results.

NDIS Registered & Compliant

We're a fully registered NDIS provider. Our reports meet NDIS quality standards and are accepted by the NDIA and all plan managers.

In-Home & Community Assessments

We assess participants in the real environments where they live, work, and play — not a clinical room. Better data, better reports.

High-Quality NDIS Reports

Our clinical reports are comprehensive, evidence-based, and written to meet NDIA expectations — reducing plan review delays.

Person-Centred Approach

Your participant's goals drive everything we do. We listen first, assess second, and recommend supports that actually fit their life.

Responsive Intake Team

Our dedicated intake team responds quickly, handles all the admin, and keeps support coordinators informed every step of the way.
