OT Services in Remote NT

Accessing occupational therapy in remote and regional NT is one of the most significant challenges in the NDIS. Many communities across the Top End, the Barkly, and Central Australia have limited or no local allied health provision โ€” meaning participants either miss out on OT entirely or must travel long distances for services that should come to them. TEAH provides FIFO occupational therapy assessment to remote NT communities, travelling to participants to conduct in-community FCAs, home modification assessments, and SIL assessments that are clinically valid because they are conducted in the participant’s actual environment. We also offer telehealth-supplemented service models for communities where full FIFO is not feasible.

What We Offer

TEAH delivers the full range of NDIS occupational therapy services across Remote NT โ€” in your home, school, workplace, or community.

FIFO Functional Capacity Assessment

OT travels to your community to conduct an in-home FCA โ€” producing clinically valid reports for NDIS plan review without requiring the participant to travel to Darwin.

Remote Home Modification Assessment

On-site assessment of housing access in remote communities โ€” including considerations specific to Housing NT properties and cyclone-rated construction.

Telehealth OT Assessment Support

Where FIFO is not feasible, TEAH can conduct initial assessment interviews and standardised questionnaires via telehealth, supplemented by a FIFO visit for environmental components.

SIL Assessment for Remote Communities

Comprehensive SIL assessment and 28-day roster development for participants living in or transitioning to supported accommodation in regional NT.

AT Assessment and Prescription

Assistive technology assessment for remote NT participants โ€” conducted during FIFO visits, with product trials arranged where possible.

Carer and Support Worker Training

OT-delivered training for support workers and family carers in remote communities โ€” implementing strategies across daily living, behaviour, and AT use.

However, telehealth cannot substitute for an in-home visit for home modification assessments, SIL assessments, or FCA components that require direct environmental observation. We recommend a hybrid approach where possible.

Travel costs โ€” flights, accommodation, and vehicle hire โ€” are billed from the participant’s IDL budget at reasonable commercial rates. We provide a clear travel cost estimate before confirming a remote assessment booking.
